THE TOP FIVE...blushers

As a child, I was so pale that teachers often thought I was about to faint. This had its plus sides (I could quite easily get out of recorder class) but mostly I felt out of step with the times. Beyond the school gates, this was the cultural era of tanning beds and Sun-In blonde highlights. It was Pamela Anderson running along the beach in Baywatch. It was not pasty-faced, recorder-class truant.

When I hit my teenage years, I rapidly became an expert in blusher and bronzer. If I couldn’t have a natural healthy glow, then at least I could fake it. In today’s post, I’m concentrating on blusher because it’s still winter here in the UK, and if you’re Caucasian, a pink-cheeked bloom can feel more aligned with the season than a full-on spray tan (although, admittedly, I have just had one of those as well).

In my opinion, blusher is the underrated hero of make-up. If you apply it, your face instantly looks fresher. It’s such a quick and easy fix - far more low-maintenance than most. It says something about my obsession with finding the perfect blusher for each occasion that, when it came to compiling my Top Five, I had every single one in my make-up drawer. Don’t judge me, ok? I use them at different types of day, for different reasons.

Luckily, I no longer need to get out of recorder class because, wearing any of these beauties, no-one would believe me.

  1. Victoria Beckham Cheeky Posh Blush

Best for everyday. I use it in the ‘Major’ shade: it goes on super smoothly and lasts for ages.
