The Screenshot I Can’t Stop Thinking About
On the radical power of not reacting. At least, not always.
Somewhere in between the cat videos and the news-cycle warnings of impending doom, I found this quote. I took a screenshot because it really resonated with me:
It made me think: how many times a day do we notice something - an offhand comment, a tone shift, an eyebrow raise - and feel compelled to do something about it? The instantaneous impulse is often to respond, to defend, to correct, to judge or simply to spiral into anxiety and self-loathing (my favourite default setting!). Reacting can feel like control, but often that’s illusory. Often it’s simply reactivity, or a drain on our energy, or an ego-driven compulsion disguised as identity.
