I interviewed a podcast guest this week who said she felt that she expressed herself better in writing than speaking. I related so deeply to this. And it made me think of all the little thoughts I’ve been gathering over a lifetime of trial and error that have helped me feel better when I’ve been unsettled or sad or self-critical. I never write them down. But I really should!
So here are some of those thoughts, noted here in the hopes that they might help you too. I’ll add to the list as I think of more. Share your favourites in the comments below and we’ll end up with a lovely compendium of compassion.
You don’t have to be productive to be valuable.
It's ok if all you did today was to get through it.
Most challenges, in the fullness of time, teach us something meaningful.
Rest is a right, not a reward.
You’re allowed to change your mind.
You are not behind. Life is not a race. It’s never too late to start something new.
Failure is data acquisition.
Just because it feels hard doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong.
